In the last couple of years the interest in algae biofuels has simply burst onto the world stage. Some are even starting to call 2010 the “Algae Revolution”, for good reason as few organisms on earth appear to offer as much potential, or have the ability to radically change our lives.
Not only has algae entered our consciousness in terms of biofuel but it is already being used around the world as a health food. Health foods from algae have generally only been available from the big manufacturers but this little book appears set to change all that. People will now be able to grow their own biodiesel, Spirulina or Chlorella in their homes.
The impetus for the book, say the owners of the World of Algae, is the increased interest from the householder, teachers, and students about producing a small, inexpensive guide for people to grow algae cultures in their homes.
David Sieg the author of Growing Algae at Home said, “There appears to be a whole range of algae books for the more advanced student or worker, but few for the inexperienced or home grower. On top of this, there are very few skilled technicians that people can discuss the techniques involved, so this work bridges that gap and brings easy algae cultivation right into the home.”
The World of Algae is an exciting area for both fuel and food. Whilst big companies are pouring millions of dollars into research, very little information or practical advice exists for the average householder. World-of-Algae aims to change all that by developing the biggest repository of useful information and advice on the net.
