Many addicts carry on with their abuse because of how other relatives view their addiction. There are some family members that become enablers to the addict, which means that they use compassion and pity to supply their loved ones with the funds to continue their habit. It is the most dangerous thing that a family member could ever do and yet it is done because they don’t know enough about addiction to do otherwise.
The addicts use their addiction as a manipulation tool to get their relatives to succumb to their demands for money from them even when they don’t want to give it. They don’t know how to deal with the disease of drugs and alcohol and feel that if they don’t surrender to the addict, they will try to get the money from someone else or steal it, which will get them arrested and put in prison.
This is why it is significant for family members to be a part of the treatment procedure in a drug and alcohol treatment program because they need to become aware of the basics of how an addict thinks and how scheming they can be even to their own family members. This is one of the benefits of going through rehabilitation, therapy, counseling and treatment. It compels the family also to take a look at how they became enablers to the person’s destructive habit without realizing it.
The addict will become so desperate for the drugs or alcohol that they will sell their bodies or rob a business, residence or person to get it. They can also get it when they share needles with the other drug users. A drug and alcohol treatment center that has a faith based foundation provides information about the risk of abusing any type of substance, treatment methods and the grounds for being held responsible and accountable for those destructive behaviors that caused the abuse.
There is not a large amount of faith based treatment centers so when you find one in your local area or nationwide, it is like finding a jewel. There is an immense difference between a traditional rehab programs compared to one that is faith based. The chief difference nevertheless is how the faith based program integrates the Word of God and bible principles into treatment. They use the message of Jesus Christ as groundwork for putting the recovering addict into a place where they feel absolute love and learn that God may judge, but he is also forgiving and will forgive them of anything that they have already done.
This helps them to begin the path of recovery of mind, body and soul. It permits them to think and act freely without being afraid of relapsing because of the continuous teaching and encouragement that is given to them even after completing the program at the drug and alcohol treatment center. They begin to take pleasure in a new life of forgiveness, tranquility and expectation. Before the treatment program, they had no optimism, but soon realized that their life is now filled with anticipation and trust.
