Pasadena, Calif. --- The Rose City Sisters is an online flash fiction blog featuring stories of 1,000 words of less. Seven finalists for the 2009 "story of the year" award have been announced by blog editor Paula Johnson. They are:
Petrea Burchard (Pasadena)
An actor, writer, and photographer,
Janet Aird (Altadena)
Aird writes for several trade magazines, and enjoys writing about relationships between people.
Cindie Geddes (Reno, NV) for "Get Gone"
Geddes, the owner of Flying Hand Writing Services, has ghostwritten nine books.
Laura L. Mays Hoopes (Claremont)
Hoopes is a biology professor at Pomona College and a writer who maintains the West Coast Writers blog.
Bonnie Schroeder (Glendale)
Schroeder is a freelance writer who is working on her fourth novel.
Désireé Zamorano (Altadena)
Zamorano is the director of the Community Literacy Center at Occidental College. Her short fiction has appeared in the L.A. Times and literary journals.
Margaret Finnegan (South Pasadena) for "Sweet Revenge"
An award-winning writer, historian and instructor, Finnegan is the author of "Selling Suffrage: Consumer Culture and Votes for Women." Her essays have appeared in the L.A. Times and on Salon.com.
