Brazilian Soccer Schools launched their soccer skills program in Phuket at the Phuket International Academy Sports, Arts and Wellness Centre, on the 12th December 2009 World Cup Futsul Football Team Competition.
The Round robin tournament saw some sizzling skills to samba music. Teams represented the different nations featuring in the world cup with France and Germany meeting in the final.
Action was fast and furious throughout the tournament which featured the first game in Phuket using the Futbol De Salao (FDS) ball. The FDS ball encourages short passing and close control which was a feature of play throughout the tournament. Players learnt new skills such as the Zico flick to the Ronaldon chop. This inaugural tournament showcased the footballing talent in Phuket with two boys from the Youth Football home taking home the Most Valuable Player and Top Goal Scorer awards. Legends such as Pele, Rivelino, Zico right through to Juninho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo were brought up first playing Futebol de Salão before moving on to conventional football.
