The Center for the Humanities at the University of Missouri–St. Louis recently unveiled its Monday Noon Series programs for 2010. As one of the various lecture series offered by UMSL, the Monday Noon Series is an educational and cultural collection that includes lectures and performances from experts in the arts, dance, history, literature, politics and many other subjects.
The new year's first speaker is art curator Trudy Wilner Stack, who worked with American photographer and filmmaker Lauren Greenfield on three projects during more than 10 years. Wilner Stack gives you a glimpse into the world as curator of THIN, an HBO documentary film, which explores our consumer society's emotional effects on women.
"Our first speaker is sure to get our audience thinking about the toll consumerism takes on our society," says Karen Lucas, Associate Director of the Center for the Humanties at UMSL. "With her first-hand experience and knowledge, Wilner Stack's insight will have you seeing things from a different perspective, while giving you a behind-the-scenes look at the relationship between curator and artist."
A new speaker presents or performs a topic of his/her expertise every Monday beginning January 25 through April 26 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. at the UMSL campus' J.C. Penney Conference Center. For a complete listing of this year's speakers, please visit the Monday Noon Series Web site at http://umslce.org/
No registration is required. Light refreshments will be served. Financial assistance for this season is provided by the Center for the Humanities, the Missouri Arts Council, the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis and Gallery 210.
