January 7, 2010 — In a review published on its homepage this morning, Televisions.com evaluates the features, picture, and sound of Denon’s DVD-A1 UD Blu-ray player. Combining laboratory measurements with a keen eye for top picture quality, the reviewers thoroughly examined the player’s performance and awarded it an overall score of 9.2 out of 10 points. This score is the highest the website has ever awarded, but that’s no surprise from a player that the reviewer refers to as “an amazing piece of work”. Praise goes, for example, to the player’s extremely high video- and audio-output quality; the Blu-ray playback, for example, is classified as perfect, as is DVD playback, something the reviewer reminds readers they can’t expect in every BD player.
On top of perfect video, the review also praises the player’s superb audio output, although this is one area that attracts slight criticism: Televisions.com complains that the player only outputs its best sound when connected to other Denon devices, but also offered plenty of positive remarks about the player’s sound with non-Denon receivers. There’s also praise of the player’s additional features — the reviewer describes the connectivity as healthy, and praises the player’s menu for the sheer breadth of its adjustment settings.
