New website empowers women with breast cancer and improves the treatment experience by offering helpful resources, products and support for women during and after.

Jan. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- BOSTON, MA – Jillies makes lives a bit more beautiful for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

Jillies is dedicated to empowering women with breast cancer and improving the treatment experience for the 200,000 women who are diagnosed with the disease every year in this country. Founded by Lauren Penn and Margie Lipshutz, two Brookline women whose experience with breast cancer had them thinking of a way to make the experience better for those undergoing treatment.

Jillies.com is a source for all non-medical questions relating to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer such as, "What sort of wig should I buy, How do I apply false eyelashes, Where can I buy natural cosmetics, How do I tell my colleagues at work?"

The website features assembled experts in the fields of beauty, nutrition and fitness to contribute information on the latest innovations, tips and resources to help you look and feel your best during treatment and beyond.

Penn, a breast cancer survivor. thought that a more comfortable, attractive garment should be made available to women during radiation therapy. The traditional "johnnies" that hospitals supply often don't fit right, and have a big opening in front. Additionally, they are made of synthetic fibers that contain chemicals, and often come in unsubtle colors and patterns. "None of us dress that way in our everyday lives," Penn said.

So she joined forces with Lipshutz, and the two brainstormed how they could create appropriate garments for breast cancer patients.  The result was the “jillie.” Jillies treatment wear for women provides patients with privacy, comfort and style when needed most.

Each 100 percent cotton Jillie has been designed to meet the unique needs of women undergoing medical treatment and are available for purchase via jillies.com. A portion of all proceeds from the sale of garments will be donated to the Jillies Foundation, which will in turn support programs that specifically promote patient wellbeing. Wearing a Jillie is just a small step in maintaining your identity during recovery.

Approximately 200,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Jillies helps make this life altering experience better for patients and their loved ones.
