New York, NY – Womenswear label MOTHE has been selected as a finalist to join Showroom New York for another season. The Showroom is seeking contemporary ready-to-wear and accessory designers to join the showroom for the fall/winter 2010 season and will hold their Designer Jury on January 14th at Stoll Fashion & Technology Center.
Showroom New York signed Mothe as one of its residents August 2009 and housed the fall/winter 2009 and spring/summer 2010 collections. As part of a new policy, both designers currently represented by the showroom and new designers hoping to join, will be reviewed by a panel of industry professional including Tanama Besosa Castillo Market Editor of Allure Magazine and Joseph Ferrara of Garment Center Supplier Association of New York, and will be judged based on quality, innovation, and marketability.
“I would love the opportunity to rejoin Showroom New York for another season,” says May Kosaka, Mothe designer. “Working with this showroom has been an integral part of getting Mothe to the forefront of women’s fashion. Working with Samantha Bhatty, director of Showroom New York, has been great! She’s really dedicated to the concept of the showroom which is nurturing young designers in New York City.”
Acceptance into the showroom includes sales representation through the fall/winter 2010 season among other networking opportunities. In addition to representation, Showroom New York offers business and marketing support as well as sourcing referrals for local production.
“Showroom New York has the potential to give great exposure to many talented designers living in New York City who don’t necessarily have the resources to market their line,” says Samantha Bhatty, Director of Sales and Marketing at Showroom New York.

About Mothe:
New York designer May Kosaka initially received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, but her passion for art and the construction methods of garments led her to New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, where she received a degree in Fashion Design.
Kosaka’s artistic talent was recognized in 2005, when she was commissioned to design conceptual garments as part of Parthenogenesis, an art installation for the Armory Show in New York City. After the incredible response to her work by artists and the general public, she decided to introduce the same aesthetic into clothes that all women can wear for her label MOTHE.
