Tonyrefail Employee Wins National Award For Going The Extra Mile

A Tonyrefail employee at Buy As You View fought off competition from his colleagues across the UK to win the award for Employee of the Year.

Jan. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- A Tonyrefail employee at Buy As You View fought off competition from his colleagues across the UK to win the award for Employee of the Year.
Matthew Banwell, 38, who works across the Rhondda Valley as an account manager and has worked with Buy As You View for four years. He works with 725 customers across the region by visiting their homes, seeing up to 50 customers each day.
Matthew received £500 high-street vouchers, a commemorative glass clock, a certificate and a personalised bottle of champagne along with an official car park space for the year.
He said: “I was completely shocked and lost for words when I heard my name called out. I never thought that I would be chosen above nine other employees across the UK.  Any of them could’ve won it, but it feels great to win the award.  The vouchers have come just in time for Christmas as it means we’ve had a bit more to spend on presents this year.
“I enjoy the variety of my job and seeing lots of different people every day.  Most people are friendly and nice to work with, and because I’ve worked on the same patch for a few years I’ve got to know my customers really well. When I first started I didn’t know my way around the area, but over the years I’ve got to know the cars they drive so when I’m out doing my round, I can normally tell if they’re in or not. It helps save a bit of time during my day and means that I can see more customers.
“A few of my customers are former colleagues of mine so it’s been great to keep in touch with them through work too.”
