Washington state has a $2.6 billion deficit with skyrocketing bankruptcies, high unemployment and a soaring demand for food stamps, but lawmakers want a new income tax. That’s a proposal Seattle Biz Coach Terry Corbell calls unproductive.
“Changing the state’s Constitution to implement an income tax will worsen Washington state’s economic climate for business and job creation,” says Mr. Corbell who criticizes the proposal in his Biz Coach column.
“Per capita, Washington’s budget crisis is much more serious than California with a $21 billion deficit,” he adds. “What the income-tax bill sponsors really need to do is to work to eliminate the documented waste in state government to balance the budget.”
Two state senators recently pre-filed their bills for a 60-day legislative session that starts Jan. 11.
“Government, instead of doing what every Washington family and business are doing to survive within the constraints of existing dollars, wants to amend the state’s Constitution to hit state residents with more taxes and spending,”
