For many, the thought of consulting assistance is either inaccessible or is overly theoretical. They want it, but don’t think they can get it. Or, they have it and don’t know what to do with it. VitalQ’
BOARDROOM is a monthly service in which VitalQ tackles essential, widely-common decision making issues, brings their real world application to life through a self-paced video module, and then conferences together small break-out groups to discuss this core concept and to share ideas. It’s purpose is to bridge great research with real world application at an accessible price.
Often, VitalQ leadership roles up its sleeves and runs experiments aimed at issues in question themselves – placing them directly in the action. And sometimes the results turn popular perceptions upside down, making them enormously valuable to participants.
“We noticed the industry quickly going in the direction of clever lists or gimmick principles. These are catchy and sell easily, but most of the time people have no idea what to do with them. They miss the mark too often and they never warn you before they become obsolete. What we all really need is to learn how to better figure things out in unfamiliar or changing situations. Static ‘to-do’ lists can’t do this,” explains Tom Hunsaker, co-Founder of VitalQ.
While each monthly issue in BOARDROOM is unique, they all find their core in enhancing the ongoing decision making skills of participants.
“Everything in life and business is rooted in decision making. So this is where we focus. Peter Drucker used to lament that decision making success averages only around 33%. We want to help raise this percentage for as many people as we can. This is done by building dynamic self-awareness and then applying this to specific situations and issues. Our goal isn’t to pretend to know everything and make you believe us. Our goal is an ongoing relationship that unlocks this self-awareness in you and uses it to tackle important issues better than before. There is huge value in getting it right even just a few more times,” explains Mr. Hunsaker.
VitalQ’s other co-Founder, Bud Wilhelm further describes the mechanics of how the BOARDROOM service works.
“There is a social mission to this work as well as a business objective. Our intention is to improve the understanding and practicality of an insight while greatly reducing its cost of access to each client.”
Mr. Wilhelm continues, “We do this by leveraging the BOARDROOM service across a wide number of participants. Each month is a new issue. This makes it dynamic. But each issue is tackled from a core method for seeing things clearly and isolating the best alternative – known as the GPA method – which is based in years of research and development. This consistent foundation helps people to better build self-awareness and to enhance their decision making over time. It’s awesome to see people more clearly distinguish between perception and reality, to see opportunities they missed before.”
It’s anticipated that many of the monthly focus questions will come from participants themselves, furthering the dynamic nature of the service.
“The core of every aspect of business – and life – is the ability to see things clearly, to consistently make really good decisions. This is the skill that applies regardless of the type of issue we face – personnel, marketing, communications, strategy. We are doing two things with this service: 1) improving the ongoing relationship while reducing its cost 2) getting to the heart of positive or negative performance – decision making itself. In a world in which “we are our decisions” it's pretty important to try to maximize each one,” concludes Mr. Hunsaker.
