NCAA - Is Syracuse Still the Beast of the Big East?

After two unimpressive Big East games, including their first loss, can Syracuse regain their early season swagger?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 05, 2010 -
NEW YORK, NY -- Remember way back to December 22nd, when the Syracuse Orange still looked like an unbeatable juggernaut? That team seemed to be playing at such a high level, and for so often, that mowing through the Big East was inevitability. That Orange team was seemingly scoring at will, and had so many weapons at its disposal that
teams were going to be hard pressed to find ways to actually stop an attack that averaged 88 points per game, and won by an average of 25 points.

This was not a Syracuse team that was beating creampuffs either. Sure they had some schedule padders, but the Orange’s undefeated run included a 22 point win over then 6th ranked North Carolina, a 16 point win over a California team that was ranked 13th when the two teams met, and a 12 point win over the then 10th ranked Florida Gators. This was not a team that even allowed good teams any real hope of staying in the game for 40 minutes.

Then came a 32 point win over Oakland University to, and suddenly things just didn’t seem right. Perhaps Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim saw something he wasn’t too keen on, because after that blowout victory, (over a Summit team that is undefeated in its own conference no less) he simply shook his head and told anyone who would listen "Wait 'til the Big East starts." Boeheim went on to add that he still didn’t know anything about his team, and that the conference slate would truly show them how good they were.
