Singer, Model Doreen Taylor to Unveil New Book, CD
“Coming Home” an homage to World War II music, today’s troops

(Philadelphia, PA) – Multi-talented singer, dancer, and model Doreen Taylor, who electrified 2009 audiences with a one-woman show that industry observers are still buzzing about, is close to taking center stage once again.

Taylor, whose grandfathers both fought in the U.S. military, will soon release a coffee-table book and CD that pays homage to World War II-era music and at the same time benefits today’s troops.

Called “Coming Home,” the project includes 19 songs, all sung by Taylor and all from the 1940s. There’s also a 36-page book, in which model Taylor strikes slightly suggestive poses and dons costumes reminiscent of the pinup girls to whom WWII soldiers swooned.

“The photos are inspirations, gathered from the actresses and pinup girls of the day,” Taylor explains. “I did a lot of research; who were the girls that the soldiers back in those days liked to look at?”

Among those who were inspirations for the photos featuring the sultry Taylor include Lana Turner, Betty Grable, Veronica Lake, and many more.

“These are classic shots. I picked out all the costumes,” Taylor says of the book, in which the photos are a mix of color and black-and-white shots. “They’re tasteful and elegant, but also a little suggestive, because that’s what the pinup shots of the day were.”

The ideas for the 19 songs that made the final cut came from a source close to home.

”I asked my grandmother,” Taylor says. “I asked her what the songs of the day were, and we found a super studio with outstanding musicians to perform them. All I had to do was lay down my vocal tracks.”

A generous portion of the proceeds from sales of the CD/book package will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), a top-rated nonprofit that supports more than 60,000 Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps special operations personnel and their families.

Taylor lending her presence to this project is a boon for the SOWF.

“Doreen Taylor has it all,” says John T. Carney Jr., SOWF President. “She has a classically-trained singing voice that can handle just about anything, plus she has looks that has drawn interest from modeling agencies all over the country.

“So needless to say, we’re thrilled that she approached us, wanting to get involved with our foundation,” Carney adds.

The decision as to which charity to work with was something Taylor took very seriously.

“First, both my grandfathers served in the armed forces,” she says. “Second, with the recent announcement by President Obama that more troops will be deployed, I felt strongly that today’s soldiers and their families should be helped.”

After much research and vetting, SOWF was selected, largely because of their two main programs: providing immediate financial assistance to the families of severely wounded personnel; and providing surviving children of fallen personnel with a college education.

“Coming Home” will be unveiled at a celebrity-filled red carpet gala at Trust in Philadelphia on Friday, February 26, 2010. Taylor expects up to 350 notable guests from a wide cross-section, ranging from the worlds of sports, entertainment, and politics. Organizers add that numerous local and national television stations and networks will also be represented, including TMZ, Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC.

“The theme of the party will be the 1940s,” Taylor says. “So we expect the guests to attend in attire inspired from that era, and we are encouraging them to maintain that authenticity and class throughout the evening. It will be like stepping back in time as soon as they enter the room,” she adds.

There will also be a silent auction and raffle, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting SOWF.

“We are honored that such a lovely and talented young woman like Doreen Taylor wants to partner with the foundation in supporting special operations personnel and their families at the time of their greatest need,” says Carney.
