Special seating has officially launched their new website http://www.special-
Designed by redcitrus design, the new website showcases their special needs seat solutions ranging from contoured foam seating, Matrix seating systems, Lynx seating and combination seating products. They have a range of seating solutions both in their dedicated clinical department and mobile engineering workshop.
“We are really excited to launch our new website. It gives us the platform to push our new products and services, especially the wide selection of seating solutions, vehicle hand controls and the capability to manufacture adaptations to wheelchairs in our workshop." Says Bill Cox-Martin – Senior rehabilitation engineer.
Capitalising on the expertise within the department a full design and development service is available. The team can produce rehabilitation aids tailored to the individual with their engineers and technicians using their knowledge, experience and expertise to design and build prototypes. The department operates an accredited quality management system to ISO9001:2008 and is registered with the MHRA (Medicine and Healthcare Regulatory Agency) allowing class I medical devices to be CE marked.
They also have Alfred Bekker ltd trained engineers to supply and install Motability vehicle hand controls and driver aids. Fitting can be done to any car and the vehicle hand controls can be either fitted at their workshop or for your convenience they can come to you and install with their mobile workshop. Installation will take around 2 hours and all work is guaranteed for a year
The pressure ulcer outreach team are widely acknowledged throughout Southern England as experts on pressure area management, pressure relief seating and tissue viability. They work in collaboration with surgeons from the Odstock Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery to provide solutions for people with complex pressure related needs.
One special project they worked on was for Geoff Holt, who in 2007 became the first quadriplegic yachtsman to sail single handed around Great Britain. A key requirement for Geoff was seating which would allow him to sit in his Trimiran for hours on end without becoming sore.
He came to Special Seating because of their expertise in pressure relief seating and by using the same techniques used in constructing their contoured foam cushions they recreated Geoff's shape in a foam base. This provided pressure relief by maximising pressure distribution over the whole of the cushion surface and the shaping within the cushion provided postural stability. 1,445 miles later, Geoff completed his journey, skin intact.
