On January 12 at 7:30, Quaker author Eileen Flanagan will give a free lecture at Pendle Hill entitled, "Hot and Bothered in Thine Own Mind: Coping with Fear When Facing Transition."
The title of the talk is a play on the words of 17th century Quaker George Fox, who advised a friend, “Be still and cool in thine own mind.” This advise is easier quoted than practiced, of course, especially when we are in the midst of transition. Eileen will speak about the ways fear can get in our way and tools to help us manage or move through them.
Eileen Flanagan began her career as a writer and spiritual teacher at Pendle Hill, where she was a resident student and then staff member in the early 1990s. She has also served Pendle Hill as a visiting teacher, a weekend workshop leader, a pamphlet author, and a lecturer. Pendle Hill is a spiritual study center located south of Philadelphia. Founded by Quakers but open to seekers of all traditions, it offers a variety of programs, including free lectures, weekend workshops on a range of topics, and a term of resident study with the Pendle Hill community.
The Pendle Hill bookstore will be open before Eileen's talk. Her latest book will be available, The Wisdom to Know the Difference: When to Make a Change--and When to Let Go, as well as her Pendle Hill pamphlet on parenting as a spiritual journey.
