Leading property management company, Island Villas, celebrated the spirit of Christmas last week by making a donation to the Barbados National Trust. Managing Director of Island Villas, Richard Eames, was on hand to make the presentation to William Gollop, the General Manager of the Trust. According to Mr. Eames, “Being a local company, Island Villas recognises the importance of embracing its social responsibility and is pleased to add the Barbados National Trust to the growing list of recipients of the Island Villas Charity Fund. Many of our clients are visitors to Barbados who return to the island because of its rich history. We support the Barbados National Trust in its efforts to preserve places of historic and architectural interest in Barbados and we hope that this donation will assist them in some way. Our team is dedicated to making a positive contribution to the Bajan community and we are extremely pleased at the success of our environmental and charitable campaigns.”
Throughout the year, several charities and projects are selected as beneficiaries of the Island Villas Charity Fund. So far, the fund has given assistance to the Diabetes Association of Barbados, the Optimist Club of Bridgetown, the Barbados Dyslexia Association, Variety Club and the AIDS Society. During the Christmas season, the company also collected books for the Hope Sanctuary Book Sale as well as children’s toys to give away. In 2010, the company intends to expand its innovative ‘Go Green’ environmental campaign as well as donate to a number of different charities including the RSPCA.
Speaking at the presentation, Mr. Eames expressed his own personal interest in the historic architecture still found in Barbados today. As Mr. Gollop provided a tour of the National Trust Headquarters at Wildey House, Mr. Eames was able to make strong comparisons to the architecture of Chimborazo Great House. The antique furniture, much of it mahogany, is reminiscent of old-time Barbados. Photographs of the old Broad Street and the Careenage dated from the 1800s adorn the walls and most of the original fittings are still in place throughout this Georgian-style mansion. Members of the public are encouraged to visit any of the twelve properties managed by the Barbados National Trust or to try one of the weekly hikes organised around the island. Look out for the Island Villas team who will be making this their next staff event!
