PRLog (Press Release) - Jan 04, 2010 -
Are you good with people? Do you know how to effectively handle yourself as well as others in a crisis? Have you ever considered a career in the field of Social Work? According to Dee Cohen, a licensed social worker and blogger, "In this economy, social workers are able to find jobs and are sorely needed. The field includes many opportunities including agency work, administration, forensic positions, teaching and school social work positions."

Ideally, a profession in the social work field involves helping others find solutions to their problems to the extent where they are able to support themselves once more. These individuals are often vulnerable and undergoing a life predicament. They are given the necessary guidance and support by these professionals. This is one reason which one can see the social work field can be a rewarding career direction. Social Workers are found in numerous organizations working with young offenders, those on probation, the elderly, young orphans, drug addicts, counseling those with depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders and assisting those with physical disabilities.

Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, Education, Psychology or Nursing can be a good background for one considering a graduate degree in social work due to being exposed to social theory, social justice mental health issues.

At her blog  http://www.socialworkprograms.org she discusses topics including assessing if social work is right for you, what is the average salary of social workers, what are career options with the degree in social work, how to deal with issues faced on the job, ways to develop compassion and wisdom in dealing with clients and continuing education programs for social workers.

Consistent with the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), social work is one of the fastest growing careers in the United States. It is expected to grow by 30% by the full swing of 2010 and is currently seeing nearly 600,000 people holding such degrees. These highly trained and experienced professionals are often found specializing in areas of disaster relief, political development, family planning, veteran services, genetics, public welfare, employment services, in-home services, gerontology services, chronic pain, institutional care, crisis prevention and many other practice areas. For a person to be considered a professional social worker, he/she would have to have gained a social work degree at the bachelor’s, masters or doctoral level with a completion of hours working in one such area stated earlier.

Dee encourages others and states,"If you enjoy working with people, social work can be a wonderful and secure career where you get paid for doing something you love as you help create a happier world."
