Jeffrey Poppy was thrust into a world filled with drama.
As a newborn, he began his first stirrings of life with a blood transfusion. There was more “blood” to come as his abusive father made his young life a living hell while growing up.
Pain was all he knew and it formed the basis of his life for decades. Poppy played out his drama over and over again through self-destructive patterns; a near-death gunshot wound, alcoholism, drugs, three failed marriages, six trips to rehab, and finally, living on the streets. All led him back, full circle, to himself and his inner demons.
He entered an in-house treatment center and upon release, traveled to Amsterdam. Little did he know that there he’d discover his passion and his muse. Inspired, he began to write poetry, song lyrics and, with a renewed sense of self, Poppy entered a song-writing contest. Winning second place, he traveled back to the states, landing in Nashville, Tennessee where he recorded 42 songs.
His book contains 28 compositions that describe his unsteady journey to recovery. Interwoven with heart-wrenching storytelling, this inspiring narration beautifully encapsulates his escape from a cycle of abuse and self-destruction.
