Kansas City, Mo. – Grantham University, http://www.grantham.edu, an online university dedicated to providing educational opportunities to working adults, celebrated its 59th anniversary on January 2nd.  The University was founded in 1951 by Donald Grantham, a veteran of World War II, to help prepare veterans for new jobs in the electronics’ industry and a better future upon their return to civilian life. Over the years, the University transitioned from a “brick and mortar” school with several campuses across the United States to a 100% online university located in Kansas City, MO. The University now serves students in all 50 states and around the globe.

As Grantham begins its 60th year of educating working adults, it plans to mark this milestone with a series of celebrations and events throughout 2010, all centered on the theme, “Serving Those Who Serve – 60 Years of Excellence.  Be a Part of It.”

Grantham’s mission is to provide accessible, affordable, professionally relevant degree programs in a continuously changing global society. At the heart of that mission is Grantham’s continued commitment to meeting the educational needs of our nation’s military service members and veterans.

“We believe that every service member, every veteran, and every member of a military family should have the opportunity to pursue a college education,” said Dr. John LaNear, president of Grantham University. “To ensure that our programs are accessible and affordable to these deserving students, we have developed numerous scholarship programs, an interactive online learning environment and a solid student support structure to ensure that this belief becomes a reality for those who sacrifice for us all.”

Today, the University supports thousands of online students in 24 different associate, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.  While veterans no longer comprise 100% of its student body, the University has remained true to Donald Grantham’s commitment to serving the academic needs of those who serve our country.

Because Grantham University is 100% online, it is one of the few schools able to serve America’s finest not only when they are at home, but also while they are on active duty throughout the world.  There are men and women on ground in Iraq and Afghanistan; on ships, submarines, and aircraft carriers; and on military installations around the world who are Grantham University students working toward their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
