What happening?
Should be quick. The 4-12 Redskins and the Chargers, who have already wrapped up the No.2 seed in the AFC playoffs, might not play particularly briskly -- it will be a bad team going against a good team's subs by the third quarter -- don't blink or you'll miss a number of the Chargers' stars. Most Chargers starters will likely play a half or maybe more, but Shawne Merriman won't play and others might go just a few series.
Adieu, Jim Zorn. The Redskins, it has been widely reported, are on the verge of firing Jim Zorn and hiring Mike Shanahan. Zorn was emasculated earlier in the season by Dan Snyder, and this game should mark the end of his misery as Washinton's head coach.
Future on display. Both teams will give young players a chance -- either by necessity or to take a look -- in this game with nothing at stake. After the Chargers' star players on offense are gone, it is even possible Kassim Osgood could catch his first pass since 2007.
The Bottom Line
The Chargers coaches and players on the field will be trying to win, but their main hope will be to get out of Sunday with everyone healthy and having gotten some good experience. Thing is, the Chargers have played so many people and those people have played so well, they are capable of handling the Redskins. Washington has lost five of six, but it won at Oakland, took New Orleans to overtime and beat Denver in the final half of the season.
