What happening?
The Texans have a three-game winning streak, and they're still in the playoff race. They're 8-7 for the first time in the team's eight-year history. They can finish with their first winning record if they defeat New England. The Patriots also have a three-game winning streak. They've clinched the AFC East title. They know they'll host a game on wild-card weekend, but they don't know who.
Coach Bill Belichick hasn't indicated if he'll rest his starters. Texans coach Gary Kubiak said he thinks Belichick will play his starters because the Patriots looked so good in beating Jacksonville 35-7 that'll want to pick up where they left off with the Jaguars. The playoffs are old hat to the Patriots, who have won three Super Bowls during the Belichick-Brady era. The playoffs are uncharted territory for the Texans. They're a long shot. They need to beat the Patriots and have two of three teams lose: Ravens, Jets and Broncos.
The Bottom Line
If Belichick rests players like Brady, Moss and Welker, the Texans should win handily. If not, it could be close. The Texans haven't lost by more than eight points since the opening game. Their offense has been able to move the ball against everybody, and their defense has been outstanding against the run. This game means much more to the Texans than the Patriots.
