The Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA) announces that it has successfully received a grant of 10,000 Euros from the European Commission (EU) funded  – Jordan Service Modernization Program(JSMP)/JEDCO, as part of their “quick response” to help businesses and business associations combat the economic crisis.

Under the grant, JITOA will launch the first Voluntourism Project for increasing voluntarism opportunities in Jordan, which aims at highlighting Voluntourism as one of the growing travel trends in Jordan tourism industry and also help increase the Voluntourism market in Jordan Inbound Tourism.

The project first phase kick off will be in January 2010, hosting the Voluntourism expert and the founder of Voluntourism.org, Mr. David Clemmons. JITOA arranged a full schedule for Mr. Clemmons to meet with JITOA members, governmental officials, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and other tourism professionals to explore and exchange the international practices in this field. The project will include two educational seminars and a panel discussion on Voluntourism, in addition to a series of presentations about how companies can develop their own Voluntourism programs and itineraries.

JITOA Director, Mr. Nizar Al Adarbeh said that the project will add great value for inbound tourism in Jordan.  “We realized the need to highlight this trend as one of Jordan’s tourism niche markets, and the crucial need for building solid bridges between the inbound tour operators and NGO’s, showcasing the several volunteering opportunities in Jordan.”
