Ever wanted to learn how to sew, but don’t know anyone or place that can teach you? Might you like sewing, but don’t want to invest in a machine until you know for sure? Sewtropolis is owned and operated by Nikol Gianopoulos. Nikol is a self taught sewer who made her first hand sewn gift for a friend’s mom when she was only nine years old. Nikol has sewn a variety of items from clothing, home furnishing and quilts. Nikol believes that sewing has become a lost art, in the age of inexpensive, readymade clothes; sewing is no longer passed down from mother to daughter as it once was. Also, in the age of school budget cuts, sewing is no longer offered in our schools and in these tough economic times, people want to learn the craft! Sewtropolis is the result of a longtime dream of Nikol’s: to share the gift of sewing. Sewtropolis is a Do-It-Yourself Sewing Studio and Fabric Store. Sewtropolis carries fabrics from Amy Butler, Juicy Couture, Studio-e and Kaffee Fassett to name just a few. We carry knits, wools, and Oilcloth and we are continually getting in new fabrics. Sewtropolis also carries patterns from Amy Buttler, Victoria Wells, Heather Bailey, Kwik-Sew and HotPatterns.com as well as notions and books.
Sewtropolis also offers sewing classes designed for the beginner to novice sewers. Our Sewing Essentials class is where we introduce you to the anatomy of a sewing machine. In our pajama bottoms class you’ll not only make a pair of pajama bottoms, but you’ll have the beginning steps to making a pair of pants. In our A-Line skirt class you’ll make a very flattering A-Line skirt (which is a staple to any girls’ wardrobe) plus gain ideas on making the skirt yours by changing the fabric, closure or hem. You don’t even have to own a sewing machine in order to take a class at Sewtropolis, we have quality sewing machines by Janome.
