Asya Lesly demonstrates her extraordinary sense of color design and seamstress skills in the art exhibit that opens this Friday at the Red Bluff Art Gallery. An Artist’s Reception, open to the public, will be held Friday, January 8th, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Titled “Awaken the Eye, Awaken the Soul”, the exhibition features a variety of fabric art ranging from a colorful cat doll to a seven-by-three-
Asya lives in Mineral with her husband and two young sons. Her studio is in her home and is a piece of design art in itself. Stacks of fabric, arranged in a rainbow of color, give her a satisfying base of operations for her art.
“There are piles of fabric and thread everywhere. There is a large window overlooking the neighbor’s aspen trees. I have had the space for a few years and am very grateful for it,” Asya says of her workspace, which she works in mostly at night when her sons are asleep.
Asya’s work covers a variety of contemporary subjects. Cycling is a popular motif and she brings it to the exhibition with both her fabric work and with original paintings. Traditional quilt design can also be viewed in her many colorful exhibition pieces.
Besides Asya’s fiber art exhibit, the Red Bluff Art Gallery is opening a very unusual and special piece of installation-
Moshe’s exhibit involves only one piece of art, but due to the nature of the piece, it is called a “One Piece Exhibition”. Entitled “Strokes”, it is comprised of 25 cubes, each painted differently on all six sides. Each cube can be removed, rotated and with each rotation the resulting piece of art changes appearance. The number of art pieces that can be created with this single installation is exponential.
Visitors to the client will be allowed to change the appearance of the piece, using special gloves that keep (hand) oils from damaging the art. “Strokes” is on loan to the gallery for three months.
New original works by the extremely popular artist Kseniya Beliaeva are also featured in the Gallery. Kseniya, who lives in Belarus (Eastern Europe), has been showing in Red Bluff for two years and her intricate work now has a strong base of buyers and admirers.
The exhibit opens with an Artists’ Reception on Friday, January 8th, from 5-8 P.M. at the Red Bluff Art Gallery, 601 Walnut, in downtown Red Bluff. More information at www.RedBluffArtGallery.com or phone 529-1332.
