London, Singapore, Santa Clara, Las Vegas (January 6, 2010) — Today, Shaspa Research announced it has collaborated with Marvell to bring cost-effective, high quality, interactive user experiences with the new Shaspa Bridge, powered by Marvell CPU technology.
Designed for a number of business applications including retail, hotels, banking data centers and emerging smart homes, the new Shaspa Bridge incorporates Shaspa’s energy management technology to offer consumers the ability to collect energy emission data in real-time via a network of sensors and other sources remotely while also enabling users with home automation capabilties. With Shaspa’s energy efficiency technologies users achieve an average of 5-18 per cent energy saving for homes and 23-27 per cent for commercial properties. This technology can assist in independent living without being intrusive.
“Plug Computing is designed for the development of anytime, anywhere and any size solutions such as the Shaspa Bridge,” said Dr. Simon Milner, Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Business Unit, Consumer and Communications Business Group at Marvell Semiconductor. “With the Plug Computer’s ultra-efficient power feature – emitting only two watts – it’s a perfect turnkey solution to enable the always-on consumer with access to personal digital content and resources.”
Based on the Marvell SheevaPlug and Shaspa application framework, the Shaspa Bridge supports the most common protocols found in building automation which gives it the ability to process data from a huge selection of sensors and actuators that interfaces with the internet, mobile communications and even 3D environments.
”Today, the challenge for a smart planet is not just about making environments smart, but using smart environments to enable people to make intelligent and informed decisions based on real world data delivered to the right people at the right time. Shaspa’s suite of smart and environmentally sustainable solutions offers exciting opportunities and the SheevaPlug adds a piece to our overall architecture that provides us with a platform that is perfect for use in consumer environments. It allows us to offer an attractive, scalable solution to the consumer market” said Oliver Goh, Founder and CEO at Shaspa Research.
The Shaspa Bridge has everything necessary for smart instrumentation. It can control any physical space and implement features required for configuring devices and for the display and manipulation of data. It also takes on the responsibility for reliably passing data to outside interfaces such as the Shaspa Service Framework, social networking sites and a host of applications.
The concept of smart homes, smart retail spaces, smart datacenters and smart workplaces creates a shared physical space which uses this technology to enhance the experience the users of these spaces. To enable these experiences Shaspa needed the architecture in its devices to deliver the processing capabilities of an entry-level laptop. Although required to be powerful in performance, the energy consumption of Shaspa’s products needs to have a low level to maintain its environmental credentials as well as help it achieve a competitive price point. All benefits found in Marvell’s SheevaPlug.
The Marvell SheevaPlug™ platform is designed to enable high-performance, always on, always connected, and environmentally friendly computing readily available for developers and end-users. A Plug computer is small enough to plug directly into a wall socket and is designed to draw so little power that it can be left on all of the time. Unlike other embedded devices in the home, it contains a gigahertz class processor designed to offer PC class performance. Plug computing has been quickly expanding, bringing users new devices, services, and value-added applications as well as delivering advanced avenues for network connectivity.
Shaspa Research will demonstrate the Shaspa Service Framework live at the CES 2010 show in Las-Vegas from Jan 7th to Jan 10th (http://www.cesweb.org/
