A website dedicated to chronicling Florida’s multitude of bizarre news stories has named it's "Florida Freak of the Year" for 2009. The Florida Freakshow (http://www.floridafreakshow.com)
After Alan John Jett, 40, was charged with the first-degree murder of a prostitute, Jett's son allegedly made a particularly disturbing revelation. According to an arrest affadavit, Jett asked the fifth-grader to help him dispose of the body. Voters at http://www.floridafreakshow.com selected Jett's saga over other seven other infamous Sunshine State incidents, including a man who allegedly pretended to be mentally handicapped in order to get women to change his diapers and a woman who called 911 because she was locked inside her own car.
"We got a few write-in votes, too," said Florida Freakshow co-creator Britt Olesen. "Tiger Woods was a favorite of course, along with a Florida woman who tweeted while her son was drowning in a pool."
While the state's most peculiar news story came out of Central Florida, the state's capital earned the dubious honor of being named the state's "Freakiest" city.
"Week after week, we saw weird news coming out of Tallahassee,"
Runners-up for the "Freakiest" city award were Fort Walton Beach, Port St. Lucie, and Tampa.
