The King of Pop Lives On... By Claude Julian

ABC… it’s easy as 1-2-3… I fondly remember that hit when I was a young kid growing up on the south side of Chicago, Illinois.  In the 1970’s … The Jackson 5 set the R&B charts on fire with “hit after hit after hit!!”  They fashioned the perfectly shaped afros, precision dance steps, and showmanship personified.  The Jackson 5 was the first act in recording history to have their fist four major label singles (“I Want You Back”, “ABC”, “The Love You Save”, and “I’ll be There”) reached the top of the American charts. Michael Joseph Jackson was born the seventh of nine children on August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, an industrial suburb of Chicago, to an African American family. His mother, Katherine Esther Scruse, was a devout Jehovah's Witness, and his father, Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson, a steel mill worker who performed with an R&B band called The Falcons. Jackson had three sisters, Rebbie, LaToya, and Janet, and five brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy.

On June 25, 2009, “Michael Jackson” collapsed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by his personal physician were unsuccessful. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics received a 911 call at 12:22 p.m. (PDT), arriving three minutes later at Jackson's location. He was reportedly not breathing and CPR was performed. Resuscitation efforts continued en route to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and for an hour after arriving there at 1:13 p.m. He was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. local time.

The memorial was held on July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, preceded by a private family service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park’s Hall of Liberty. Michael’s casket was carried into the Staples Center by his brothers all wearing brightly colored canary yellow ties. His casket was present during the memorial, which was broadcast live around the world and watched by up to one billion people. Reverend Al Sharpton received a standing ovation when he told Jackson's children, "There wasn't anything strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with." Jackson's 11-year-old daughter, Paris Katherine, cried as she told the crowd, "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine ... I just wanted to say I love him so much." This display of love will go down in history as “one of the most emotional moments” at a famous celebrity’s funeral.

“It still seems so surreal knowing that we’ll never see the mega pop icon break more records with his “This Is It” World Tour.  Michael Jackson’s “This Is IT” concert movie has break box office records generating $72,091,016 (domestic) and $180,341,232 (international) totaling a whopping $252,432,248 (worldwide).

In the U.S., Jackson broke three chart records on the first Billboard issue date that followed his death. The entire top nine positions on Billboard's Top Pop Catalog Albums featured titles related to him. By the third week it would be the entire top twelve positions. Number Ones were the best-selling album of the week and topped the catalog chart with sales of 108,000, an increase of 2,340 percent. The Essential Michael Jackson (2) and Thriller (3) also sold over 100,000 units. The other titles on the chart are Off the Wall (4), Jackson Five's Ultimate Collection (5), Bad (6), Dangerous (7), HIStory: Past, Present and Future - Volume 1 (8) and Jackson's Ultimate Collection (9). Collectively, his solo albums sold 422,000 copies in the week following his death, 800,000 copies in the first full week, and 1.1 million copies in the following week of his memorial service. He also broke a record on the Top Digital Albums chart, with six of the top 10 slots, including the entire top four. On the Hot Digital Songs chart he placed a record of 25 songs on the 75-position list. In the U.S., Jackson became the first artist to sell over one million downloads in a week, with 2.6 million sales. By August 5, Jackson had sold nearly 3.8 million albums and 7.6 million tracks in the U.S. Number Ones was the best selling album in five of the six weeks that followed his death

Man! Heaven is having a fabulous concert as “Michael Jackson” is spotted moon walking all over the dance floor”. We at Stunner Baby Magazine express our deepest condolences to Michael Jackson’s family, friends, and millions of fans all over the world.  Michael would have celebrated his 51st birthday on August 29, 2009.
