The Historic Thayer Hotel Kicks Off Doo Wop Musical Series with the Duprees on January 9

The Thayer Hotel at West Point presents its 2010 Doo Wop Musical Series starting with the Duprees on January 9 and featuring Johnny Maestro of The Brooklyn Bridge on February 6

The historic Thayer Hotel will once again offer its popular and exciting Doo Wop musical series featuring the sounds of the 50’s and 60’s this winter.

It all begins on Saturday, January 9 at 8 p.m. with The Duprees.  Founded in the early 1960’s, The Duprees continue to entertain audiences in major venues throughout the world with their unique sound and outstanding vocal harmonies.  Take that trip down memory lane and sing along to all your favorites like “You Belong to Me,” “My Own True Love”, and “Have You Heard.”

Then, on Saturday, February 6 at 8 p.m., see the fabulous Johnny Maestro.  The lead singer of The Brooklyn Bridge will bring you all the way back to yesteryear with classics like “In the Still of the Night,” “Earth Angel,” and “The Worst That Could Happen.”  Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge continue to “wow” audiences worldwide.

More Doo Wop favorites are in the works for March with Joey Dee and The Starlighters and Yo Vinny and The Bronx Wanderers.

Enjoy dinner with the show for just $110 per person.  Dinner packages for all shows begin at 6 p.m. in The Thayer’s main dining room.  Tickets for the show only are $55 per person, or $65 per person for premium seating.   Add an overnight stay for just $339 per couple with breakfast buffet or $379 per couple with Sunday Champagne Brunch.

Built in 1926, The Thayer Hotel at West Point is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Originally built to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, The Thayer Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833. Known as “the father of the Military Academy,” Colonel Thayer upgraded academic standards and instilled discipline and honor in the cadet corps.

Over the years, this hotel has hosted a long line of dignitaries and celebrities including General Tommy Franks, General Douglas MacArthur, President Dwight D. Eisenhower, President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Queen Noor of Jordan, former Irish President Mary Robinson, singer Luciano Pavarotti, actors George C. Scott, James Earl Jones and Gregory Peck, the Philadelphia Flyers, and many others.
