Teen Open Mic at The Spoon in Lindenhurst Saturday January 9, 2010 3-6:30

Dec. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- The idea for the teen open mic came to Terry Little while she was co-hosting
an open mic at a local bar. Terry had hosted several of her own open mics throughout her 20 year career. She knew the one of the best ways for an amateur singer or musician to get exposure, experience, and build a following was at open mics. In fact, she regularly brought her students to open mics and got them on stage. The students that performed at the open mics blossomed in the atmosphere. Terry knows that stage experience is the best way to help her students achieve their goals of becoming professional performing musicians.
Terry had many teenage students, as well as a 14 year old step-daughter, that she believed were ready to perform in front of an audience. All of the open mics Terry had either hosted or had attended had usually taken place late on weeknights in clubs that served alcohol. She realized that there were few opportunities for some of the young talent she was cultivating to perform. With that in mind, Terry was inspired to seek out a venue that would be appropriate….and cool of course, to host her own open mic for teens on a weekend afternoon-when teens usually went out with their friends.

Her first thought was the Spoon in Lindenhurst. She has been there at the Wednesday open mic a few weeks prior. There she met Joey Spoons the owner. She loved the feel of the venue and loved Joey’s generous open attitude, as well as his genuine love of music. She approached Joey with her idea. The two had a meeting at the Spoon, and thus, the Teen Open Mic was born!
