WOWIO and Heal the Bay Partner in Innovative Fundraising Campaign With eBooks, Cowboys and Alien

WOWIO continues to support viable nonprofit organizations with fundraising campaign for Heal the Bay.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 28, 2009 -
Los Angeles, CA:  What do Cowboys and Aliens have to do with preserving California’s coastal waters?  Actually, a lot, thanks to WOWIO, a leading eBook company, which will donate all proceeds from the graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens to the nonprofit environmental organization, Heal the Bay.

The organization Heal the Bay was formed in 1985, in response to the declining water quality in Santa Monica Bay. The routine dumping of barely treated sewage had led to a decrease in the number and quality of fish in the Bay, as well as increased infection rates for swimmers.

24 years later, through research, education, community action, and advocacy, the group has made great strides to improve conditions, not only in Santa Monica, but also for many of California’s beaches and waterways.

” Support from third parties, such as WOWIO, are important for promoting greater awareness, broadening our base of members, and generating funds to support our efforts to make Southern California coastal waters and watersheds, safe, healthy and clean,” said Natalie Burdick, Heal the Bay’s constituent development manager “we are excited to partner with WOWIO and for the opportunity to benefit from the eBook sales of Cowboys and Aliens.”

For WOWIO, the opportunity to help this organization was too important to pass up.  The graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley, takes the conventional American frontier story of Cowboys and Indians fighting over land, and adds a new twist—extraterrestrial aliens, who touch down outside Dodge City, forcing these two timeless mortal enemies to put aside their differences long enough to save Earth.

Dreamworks is making Cowboys and Aliens into a major motion picture, to be directed by Jon Favreau, produced by Steven Spielberg and Ron Howard, and written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, Mission Impossible). It is set to go into production in June.

In addition to the Cowboys and Aliens proceeds, WOWIO allows customers to donate additional funds to the Heal the Bay through the “gifting” of eBooks with their Gifting for a Cause program. When sending a personalized gift eBook, WOWIO customers can also choose to give the gift special meaning by supporting Heal the Bay and other worthy causes. 100% of the donation goes to the organization.

Customers also can choose a specially-designed digital dust jacket for their gift, showcasing the cause they are supporting.
