New York Jets vs Indianapolis Colts Matchups To Watch:

Jets SS Jim Leonhard and ILB David Harris vs. Colts QB Peyton Manning. For how ever long Manning plays, whether it's one series, one quarter or the whole game, it will be important for Leonhard and Harris to make the proper checks before the snap. Leonhard calls the signals for the secondary and Harris does that for the front seven, and they surely are aware that no QB in the NFL makes better pre-snap reads than Manning. The Jets must avoid blown coverages, such as the ones they've had late in losses to Jacksonville and Atlanta.

Jets FS Kerry Rhodes vs. Colts TE Dallas Clark. Rhodes has done a solid job in the last two games covering two of the NFL's top tight ends, Kellen Winslow Jr. of Tampa Bay and Atlanta's Tony Gonzalez. Rhodes, in fact, was not covering Gonzalez when he caught the game-winner in Atlanta's victory, as the Jets used zone coverage on that play, and Gonzalez found a window.

Jets WR Braylon Edwards vs. Colts CB Kelvin Hayden. Edwards' numbers have been somewhat pedestrian since he joined the Jets in an October trade, but some of that has to do with conservative game-planning and Mark Sanchez's struggles. Edwards had five catches for 105 yards, including a 65-yard TD against Atlanta, making that his best game as a Jet. Jacksonville's Mike Sims-Walker had six catches for 64 yards and a score against Hayden last week.


Colts WR Reggie Wayne vs. Jets CB Darrelle Revis. Indianapolis' best receiver against perhaps the premier cover corner in the NFL today. Revis has been credited with shutting down, or at least slowing down, the likes of Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Andre Johnson, Steve Smith and Marques Colston. It should be an interesting matchup.

Jets RB Thomas Jones vs. Colts LB Clint Session. Session has been bothered by a sore calf in recent weeks and it's up in the air whether he will be able to play against the Jets. But the third-year linebacker has been a leader for Indianapolis in the team's defense against the run. Jones, meanwhile, had 112 yards rushing against Indianapolis in Super Bowl XLI when he played for the Chicago Bears.

Colts DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis vs. Jets OTs D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Damien Woody. Freeney and Mathis have both been slowed a bit in recent weeks by minor injuries. Ferguson and Woody are two pretty good offensive tackles but could have their hands full if the Colts defensive ends come into Sunday's game in better health.
