Despite the current economic gloom Dorma and Fogarty bedding retailer Browns of Weston / Hoopers Bridgwater expects sales of bedding and soft furnishings to rise as a direct result of the UK recession.
-- The innovative retailer which has a chain of stores in Somerset as well as a flourishing online business expects increasing numbers of people to buy soft furnishings as a result of feeling the pinch.
Browns are specialist suppliers of quality bedding such as Dorma and Fogarty bed linen. they believe people want to feel more comfortable and become more domesticated and in doing so value comfortable beds and attractive bedding even more.
Whilst many retailers including soft furnishings retailers are going out of business there are significant signs that demand for bedding really is increasing. Googles online trends analysis web site shows that searches for bedding on its search engine are markedly increased from last year.
Katie Page founder of linen retail giant Harvey shares the same opinion and has recently been quoted as saying: “Bedding sales always rise in a downturn. Stress means people want a good night’s sleep. That’s what happened in Harvey Norman’s stores in Singapore during the 1990s when the economy there was hammered by the Asian crisis, the attacks on the Twin Towers and the war in Iraq.”
With the global economic woes making all our lives more difficult we could all benefit from a good nights sleep.
