What happening?

The Saints' quest for a perfect record ended last Saturday night against Dallas, making this game a lot less dramatic. But it's still important for New Orleans, which can lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC with one more win.

The Saints (13-1) would love to play a dominant game against their NFC South rivals, whom they whipped 38-7 at Tampa last month, allowing them to regain confidence heading into their playoff run. After this, they may wind up resting their starters at Carolina in Week 17.

The Buccaneers (2-12) don't have any playoff aspirations, but a win in the Superdome could give them some serious momentum heading into 2010. Tampa Bay just played its best game of the year last week at Seattle, stunning the Seahawks with a 24-7 victory all the way across the country.

Rookie quarterback Josh Freeman was solid, and he had a lot of help from a consistent run game and impressive defense. The Bucs' defense has shown signs of life since coach Raheem Morris fired defensive coordinator Jim Bates last month and took over the reins himself. But Sunday's game will prove to be the ultimate test against the high-powered Saints offense.

The Saints may not be perfect anymore, but they're never boring. Quarterback Drew Brees is playing the position as well as anyone in the NFL, despite the fact he probably fell behind Indy's Peyton Manning in the MVP race with a poor performance against Dallas. And he has an embarrassment of riches at his disposal in the Saints' deep and diverse offense, though tailback Reggie Bush and tight end Jeremy Shockey are a little dinged up right now.

The Saints' offense leads the NFL in yards per game and points per game by large margins, but they'll probably fall short of the NFL scoring record they had been threatening for most of the year. They need 107 points over the final two games to break the record set by the 2007 New England Patriots.
