Dockery Design Staff Asked to Teach Course in Advanced Typography

On December 18th, 2009, Tyler Dockery, creative lead at Dockery Design, a Raleigh Graphic Design Firm was asked as a special favor by Wake Tech to return and teach coursework in Advanced Typography.

“I have taught at the collegiate level at Wake Tech before”, Tyler Dockery noted. “Their program is really geared towards creating a student with a strong skillset, a good portfolio, and an unusually purposeful drive towards project completion. These students are looking to enter the workplace with practical skills, a strong graphic design and web design knowledge, and hands-on experience. Students in the Advertising and Graphic Design curriculum at Wake Tech are ready for the real world, and they are ready to work hard.

“Which is good,” Tyler stated with a quiet smile, “because my classes are a lot of work. Tough work. Real work. Good work.”

In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Tyler Dockery had taught classes at Wake Technical Community College which were part of several Associates Degree Packages. As an adjunct faculty member for Wake Tech, Tyler taught classes in Design Basics, Illustrator, Photography, Advanced Typography, and Photoshop for Video Game Design. In addition to being a staff member, Tyler also helped out with the Student Graphic Design Association.

Tyler has also been a curriculum advisor to Wake Tech in 2005-2007 and again in 2009. He feels that advising the college on its curriculum will help it to offer the best classes to help keep students’ futures bright, and allow them to hit the streets with the proper skills to land a graphic design or web design job, and prosper.

“Returning to Wake Tech for the Spring Semester 2010 is something I look very foward to. It’ll be nice to have my own office on campus, but working with the students on the projects that will mold their first portfolio— that’s the real draw. The students see every project as one which might land them that next great job. They work hard, they listen hard, they care, and they’re ready to learn and understand. I just love that.”

During the Spring Semester 2010, Tyler Dockery will be teaching Advanced Typography, 2 courses on Photoshop, and a course on Photoshop for Web Design. His work will encompass both PC and Mac Lab environments for his classes, and will require the use of both Adobe CS3 and Adobe CS4 software packages. Some courses will be taught online through Wake Tech’s Blackboard online teaching environment. Tyler Dockery will retain his role as creative lead with Dockery Design during this time
