You can do that by maintaining a regular sleep routine, dealing with any stress that brings about sleeplessness, avoiding caffeinated beverages six hours prior to bedtime, having a comfortable mattress and a good diet and exercise regime. Ginseng, lemon and hops are other alternative herbal preparations. Chamomile is still under the process of evaluation by the FDA for its efficacy.

Dieticians have also recommended foods that are high in magnesium may also be an effective sleep aids. Some specific foods containing L-tryptophan such as bananas, milk, and turkey when taken in moderation can cause drowsiness.
