On Boxing Day (Saturday, December 26) from 12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m., Good Shepherd Centre (412 Queen Street East) will serve its annual Christmas meal. The meal is offered free of charge to anyone in need.
Good Shepherd Centre is preparing a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings for 1,400 people – up 40% from the 1,000 prepared last year. Seventy-five volunteers will help serve roast beef with gravy, potatoes, vegetables, dinner rolls and apple pies. Volunteers will also distribute apples, oranges, and a small gift for each guest.
This past year, Good Shepherd Centre has seen demand for its meal program soar. The average number of meals served last year was 800. Currently, the Centre is serving an average of 1,200 meals – a 50% increase.
“I lost a lot of weight before I started coming here,” says Jimmy, one of the new regulars at the Centre. “This place saved my life.”
Our grateful thanks to all the wonderful donors and volunteers who are making it possible for Good Shepherd Centre to serve a record-breaking number of meals in 2009.
