ICDC College wanted to do something nice for the holidays for those in need. A fundraiser was organized at ICDC College’s corporate office to collect monetary donations for StandUp For Kids, a non-profit charitable organization to help homeless and street youth improve their lives. According to Standup for Kids website, the organization was founded in 1990 by retired U.S. Navy Officer Richard L. Koka. Mr. Koka began his outreach in 1987 when he saw a CBS broadcast that documented homeless youth on the streets of San Diego, CA and vowed to fight homelessness among at-risk teens 22 and younger.
The donations raised by ICDC College’s successful fundraising event will go toward giving gift cards and sleeping bags to homeless teens. ICDC College’s corporate office welcomed the opportunity to get involved. “ICDC College wanted to support this effort because our motto is ‘We Change People’s Lives’ and we’re here to make a difference,”
Lisa McGloiry, J.D. Director of Media Relations said. Standup For Kids goal is to provide at risk teens with shelter, personal services, employment and education to help better themselves as individuals. ICDC College’s mission is to help provide short-term career training, Associate’s degrees and job placement assistance to help people become gainfully employed. Both ICDC College and Standup For Kids are making a difference.”
