With the new economic climate one-on-one personal training, and the better body that people expect, is farther out of reach for more and more people. However, a local business owner has launched a new kind of personal training – semi-private – that he says lowers prices and enhances results.
“The days of 1-on-1 training are dying,” says Josef Brandenburg, author of The Body You Want and owner of TheBodyYouWant.com. “People are tired of paying high fees for private sessions and not getting the results that they want. With this new business model, everyone gets better results and has more fun for a lower price.”
While most people might seem resistant to the change, according to Brandenburg, that hasn't been the case. “My clients love the new model. It allows them to train with like-minded people who push each other to be better and the results have been better than one-on-one used to be. Now that we’ve been doing semi-private for a year people get upset when they have train alone!”
Some people think that this is akin to a fitness class, which isn't the case. “There is a big difference between training 3 people at once and 15 people at once” Brandenburg says. “With three people, you can still coach on form, technique and help motivate your clients to work harder. Plus, if you design the programs ahead of time, then none of your attention has to go to ‘wining it’. Group classes can get a little chaotic with a lot of people and there isn't much coaching that can occur then.”
Still, business isn't showing any signs of slowing down in this economy. “My business is doing better now that it was when I was doing one-on-one training sessions and I see no reason why that is going to change anytime soon.”
