To help students succeed in a business world that is becoming increasingly global, Spring Arbor University’s Gainey School of Business plans to add an international business major and minor to its undergraduate offerings in Fall 2010. Spring Arbor University’s main campus is in Spring Arbor, Mich.

"Globalization is a reality of the contemporary world," says Betty Overton-Adkins, vice president for academic affairs. “The new international business degree is a welcome addition to our global-focused offerings.”

The degree will prepare students with strong business skills, as well as cultural sensitivity and knowledge, and beginning language skills to work in a variety of international settings. Its graduates will be prepared for careers both domestically and globally in businesses and nonprofits, and capable of pursuing international, entrepreneurial opportunities and much more.

The new international business program takes into account the growing business connections between the United States and other parts of the world. A special emphasis will be placed on preparation to work with China and other Asian countries, because of the rapid increase in partnerships with this part of the world.

Spring Arbor’s coursework will cover traditional business areas, economics, cultural communication or anthropology, foreign languages and a specialized area, as well as newly created courses in international business.

“Our students should be great resources for any company that conducts business internationally, because they will be able to “hit the ground running,” explains Overton-Adkins. “Graduates will have international experience, know accepted business protocol in various countries, and provide international partners in understanding American business practices.”

In addition to Spring Arbor University’s main campus in Spring Arbor, the Christian liberal arts institution has adult learner sites located all across Michigan and in Ohio. It also has an online program.
