Thanks to funding and grants from several sources, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida (http://www.goodwillswfl.org)
Complexes in Fort Myers, North Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Punta Gorda received renovations. Improvements to each complex were based on need, and included new roofs and guttering, tile floors, hurricane windows, generators, and energy-efficient HVAC systems.
Funding for the improvements came from Lee County SHIP funds, Cape Coral SHIP funds, Community Block Grants, and Charlotte County hurricane funds.
Goodwill’s housing agency, Southwest Florida GWI Housing, Inc., provides barrier-free housing for persons with physical disabilities. Its goal is to provide affordable, convenient, independent living to enhance the overall quality of life. Goodwill operates thirteen HUD-approved housing complexes in Lee, Charlotte, and Hendry counties.
Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, Inc. (http://www.goodwillswfl.org)helps people with disabilities and other disadvantages overcome their barriers to employment and independence. In addition to housing, Goodwill’s programs and services include Job-Link training and placement programs, the Four Wheels For Work vehicle assistance program, youth mentoring programs, and the Goodwill L.I.F.E. Academy, a charter school for students with developmental disabilities.
