caacQ (Companion Animal Adoption Centres of Québec) a not for profit organization whose mission is to reduced the number of companion pets killed in Québec. We have experienced a surge in the number of abandoned dogs; this is an alarming situation.
“The number of dogs being dumped at shelter and pounds in Québec are shocking. We are speculating that perhaps it’s the rise in the unemployment rate resulting in tough financial times for Québec families that’s driving up the numbers.” stated Johanne Tassé, President and Founder for the caacQ.
As a result, there is increasing demand on local Quebec shelters.
Tassé adds “We are under great pressure to transfer more dogs outside of Québec as local shelters are entirely full with more dogs arriving daily.
Monday the 21st 30 dogs will be arriving at TAS South, via Le French Connection Program however the caacQ cannot absorb any additional costs at this time and must secure additional funds so that we can provide a safe haven for homeless Quebec dogs in the near future.”
The costs incurred by Le French Connection program are basic but costly, these include vehicle rentals, insurance, gasoline and lodging for the volunteers. The caacQ’s Ontario-based lodging sponsor has recently backed out and can no longer support the program making financial assistance at this time dire.
“Le French Connection” Program
Launched in May of 2008 the caacQ has successfully rescued and exported 436 dogs which were taken in by TAS South to be matched up with appropriate families. “Les Frenchies” as they are known are driven with pride down the 401, the highway of hope for many, by groups of volunteers who support the caacQ.
Donations can be made directly online through the caacQ website or by mail.
