Captain Sheriff's Fishing Charters, a Rhode Island based saltwater charter fishing company gears up for another hot season of striped bass, bluefish, tautog, scup, fluke, bonito and shark fishing season. http://www.fishonsheriff.com
Fishing from a custom 29 foot center console Sea Vee powered by twin Yamaha outboards enables customers to have more valuable time fishing due to comfortable cruising speeds of 38 knots. Rhode Island waters are very productive for several species of fish and the most popular is the striped bass which run strong from May to October. Striped bass fishing in New England waters utilizes numerous techniques. Techniques range from the excitement of topwater action, deep jigging and live lining bait . Minimum legal length is 28 inches with catches of big fish exceeding 48 inches and or 50 pounds. It is a quick run to block island where bass fishing is most productive due to strong currents and abundant structure. The reefs of Watch Hill Rhode Island are also very good and are relatively close to shore which is a favorite of many customers as well. Once we limit out on those fish, fluke is our second option depending on the current regulations which vary every year. They are a great eating fish and we do get some opportunity at targeting them within the bass season. Tautog are great fighting fish and very tasty as well. Prime season for them is Late October till mid December. If you like serious action, shark fishing may be the ticket for you. The common species of shark we target are blue sharks, mako and threshers. Tiger sharks and a few others are also seen on occasion inside 50 miles . Captain Sheriff's Fishing Charters practices catch and release except for mako and threshers due to their edibility.
