By: Jack Connell Now Ken Davidoff is licensing the B&W photos of Jimi at 1968 Miami Pop Festival. The website is www.themiamipopfestival.com , where these photographs are diplayed by Davidoff. The Miami Pop Festival 1 was at Gulfstream Racetrack with Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Blue Cheer, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. All of these photos have been put away for 40 years. There is so much going on about this, Michael Lang has even licensed 4 Miami Pop Festival 1 photos,for his best selling book "The Road to Woodstock" . Ken Davidoff and his partner Jack Connell are currently working on 2 documentaries, The 1968 Miami Pop Festival 1 and The 1969 Palm Beach Pop Festival which Davidoff also photographed. The Palm Beach Pop Festival was called "Woodstock South" which was 3 months after Woodstock and had the best Rock Acts at the time as well as The Rolling Stones as the closing act. Terrible weather and Lots of oppression from the local and state governments made this a big hassel for concert goers who were looking for warmth and rock and roll. 1969 www.palmbeachpopfestival.com that was a 3 day sleep over festival at the Palm Beach International Speedway, that had everybody plus more from the Woodstock artist , only Palm Beach had The Stones and Woodstock had JImi. Janis Joplin and Johnny Winter Jammed with Vanilla Fudge, there was Iron Butterfly, The Byrds, Grand Funk, Spirit, Jefferson Airplane, Rotary Connection, Ten Years After, Sly and The family Stone, Country Joe and the Fish, PG&E . Plus a lot more , Palm Beach Pop was cold and wet and started with about 50,000 people and ended with about 3,000 by the time the Stones played at 4:00 am, and had to be in the low 30’s temp wise and they performed ” The Get Yer Ya Yas out” set , for they had recorded the album in Madison Square Gardens the night before. This was Nov 30th 6 days later was Altamont Dec 6th , The end of the festival sort of thing at least for the Stones .
