John Downey sits within earshot of a 26-year-old agent, and he admits he was taken aback to hear the salesman constantly refer to clients as "Dude."
But Downey can't complain about the results. By focusing on his peers who are buying their first homes, the Generation Y agent is one of the top producers at 80-agent Coco Early Associates, which has offices in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
In the December issue of "Real Estate Broker's Insider," Downey shares his strategies for finding and working with Gen Y agents. These include:
* Recruiting young agents through ads on sites such as Craigslist, Monster, and Salesgravy.com.
* Pairing young agents with veterans for their first few deals.
* Encouraging young agents to do deals not only with their peers but also with their peers' parents.
