Olive Tree Bible Software, provider of BibleReader software for mobile platforms, has released a new set of tools for reading and researching biblical Greek and Hebrew.
The latest release of BibleReader 4 for iPhone, available through iTunes, brings Greek and Hebrew texts to mobile devices, combined with powerful electronic research tools. Olive Tree offers standard scholarly texts in mobile format, including the Greek New Testament, the Greek Septuagint, and Hebrew scriptures (BHS/HMT). Each text can be combined with reference materials such as parsing, morphology, glosses, and lexica tools that are intuitively integrated into the BibleReader interface. In addition, BibleReader uses specialized Unicode fonts to overcome the traditional display limitations of mobile devices, offering Greek and Hebrew font display that is comparable to desktop Bible software and the printed page. A powerful search function allows word, phrase, and Boolean searches in Greek, Hebrew, and English, along with searches on morphological codes. This function was specially engineered for faster and lighter computing processes, suited to mobile CPU capabilities.
At the November 2009 annual meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL), Olive Tree participated in the Bible Software Shootout, a presentation showcasing Bible software's performance in answering real-life research questions. Alongside Bible software peers like Logos, Bible Works, and Accordance, Olive Tree was the only software for mobile platforms that demonstrated Greek and Hebrew research tools.
Scheduled for release in early 2010, new Greek and Hebrew fonts for BlackBerry and Android devices will enable these tools and resources on an even wider range of mobile devices.
