Dec. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Houston, Texas – United States –  According to statistics released by the US government at the beginning of the decade roughly 35% of all nursing homes in the United States have been cited for abuse at some point. According to the Nursing Home Reform Act of 1987, nursing home residents are guaranteed certain rights. Included among these rights is the right to photograph or document any injury and to file a complaint to the administrator about any abusive action committed against them. If either of these actions is prevented by a member of the nursing home staff it constitutes an act of abuse in itself.

“Not everyone knows their rights,” said our spokesperson. “We’ve published the main points of the Nursing Home Reform Act on our website so that patients can read up on what their rights are. If a patient feels those rights have been violated he or she can contact us and we’ll evaluate the situation to see if legal action is justified. It’s not always a clear case of physical abuse. Neglect can also result in adverse effects on seniors in nursing home care.”
