The 1.5-metre height and three-metre long flag is powered by colored Solar Photovoltaic Module array, with photosensitive semiconductor devices made of photovoltaic cells assembled in modules. The specially designed and manufactured colored PV module when put together resembles the UAE flag and will generate more than 1 MW a year. It will be displayed at the Butterfly Roundabout at the entrance to Dubai Media City, a member of TECOM Investments.

Ali Bin Towaih, Executive Director, ENPARK, said: “The solar power flag strongly illustrates the innovative techniques we adopt in driving the sustainability message across to everyone in the community. And, we consider the 38th UAE National Day an appropriate time to raise awareness on clean technologies and its importance to the contemporary society.

“We continue to play a major role in spreading the green concept to tackle global warming, through initiatives that focus on environment-friendly buildings as well as water and energy conservation programmes. Our strategy at TECOM Investments is in line with the vision of the UAE leadership and we are proud to take that forward through installing the solar powered flag.”

Jamal Al Sharif, Executive Director, Dubai Studio City, said: “We are delighted to partner with ENPARK and PTL SOLAR™ on this initiative to mark the special occasion. The UAE National Day is the most appropriate occasion to reinforce our commitment towards creating a sustainable lifestyle to the new generation and by collaborating with our partners on the solar-power flag Dubai Studio City reaffirms its commitment to implementing more such environment-friendly technology.”

TECOM Investments and its entities adopt a proactive approach through various initiatives to raise awareness on green issues and reduce carbon footprint in the region. The TECOM management office was recently benchmarked by the US Green Building Council as the first LEED Platinum Commercial Interior in the region.
