The great advantage of our style of cruising and the more intimate scale of our cruise ships is that we really get to know our guests and what they want from a cruise – and importantly, what they enjoy most about the Fred Olsen cruise experience. This means we can continually hone our cruises so that they’re absolutely right for our passengers. This goes for our ships too, because our traditional style of cruising is complemented by the contemporary interior design of our ships.
All the ships in our fleet have been refurbished or refitted in recent years, with both Balmoral and Braemar refitted in 2008 and Black Watch dry-docked for further improvements in December 2009 (we're pleased to say Braemar was named 'Best Refurbished Ship' in the 2009 Cruise Critic Awards). This continued development is proving popular, judging by the number of guests who come back time and time again: typically around half the passengers on a Fred Olsen cruise have travelled with us before.
Our Unique And Stylish Fleet
The impression guests have when they first step on-board a Fred.Olsen cruise is of freshness, light and space. Although smaller than the mammoth impersonal 'cities that go to sea' appointed by some cruise lines, our ships are far from cramped. There is a high proportion of spacious, elegant suites with large windows and sea views – and roomy balcony cabins where guests have their own private place to soak up the sun and marvel at the views. And wherever you go on board, we’ve created a light and airy ambience, with large picture windows in the lounges, restaurants and bars.
Eat To Your Heart’s Content
When it comes to dining – a vital ingredient for a successful cruise – we believe that we have the balance just right (something confirmed by our passenger satisfaction surveys). Relax and enjoy meals and snacks alfresco on deck. Or for more formal affairs, select from our newly improved a la cárte menus in the stylish restaurants. Like everything on board Fred. Olsen ships, our attention to detail is second to none, with a range of options on the menu every evening to satisfy the most discerning of palates.
Do As Much – Or As Little – As You Choose
There’s plenty to do on-board. Traditional activities like practicing in the golf nets, card games or cultural lectures are joined by interactive games on Nintendo Wii. Guests can cool down in one of the pools, or laze in a Jacuzzi with a refreshing fruit smoothie. The more active can enjoy a work out in the gym – followed perhaps by the sheer indulgence of a luxurious spa treatment. Or relax on deck with a good book from the library. The choice is yours; do as little, or as much as you want.
Evenings Really Come Alive
As day turns to night there’s a venue to match every mood. A choice of entertainment throughout our ships – classical string trios, pianists, singers, cabaret acts and glittering shows – bring the evening alive. The choice is varied and extensive for guests to enjoy as they choose.
Exploring The World
All the delights on-board are matched by the wonderful choice of quality shore tours. From bustling markets to ancient monuments, from breathtaking landscapes to exciting cities: all cruise excursions are designed and carefully monitored to ensure guests can get the most from their cruise experience. Perhaps it's no surprise that we were named 'Best for Seeing the World' in the 2009 Cruise Critic Awards.
Suite Dreams
The additional style, comfort and space offered by your own suite is something to be envied and really can make your holiday even more special. There’s a variety of cruise suite offers on all our ships, each with a range of extras to make your time on board even more relaxing; extras which we call ‘Suite Dreams’. A complimentary bottle of sparkling wine will be in your suite to greet you on arrival, together with a bowl of fresh fruit – which will be refreshed throughout your stay as you request. Canapés will also be delivered daily in the late afternoon, as you prepare for dinner and the evening entertainment. All suites offer additional space to relax and be yourself, or entertain fellow guests as the mood takes you. Most include a sitting area or sitting room with private balcony, together with a flat screen TV, and fridge or mini bar. Cosy bathrobes and slippers are also provided and your bathroom will have luxury towels. Suites even have in-cabin binoculars, so you can scan the horizon for the next port of call, together with a world atlas and country guide to each location.
For formal occasions there’s a complimentary pressing service, and there are also laundry service discount vouchers to help you keep spick and span throughout your cruise. Suite guests also receive a daily newsletter featuring the latest national and international news from London. In addition, there are complimentary shuttle coach vouchers to assist going ashore if the ship berths a little way from a town centre. Plus, each suite has a pair of compact umbrellas for the use of guests, should the weather outdoors not be entirely perfect.
