FinSoul has learned that British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown’s government has recently launched a new round of funding to support businesses and community organizations who plan to install combined heat and biomass heating and power systems.
In this the 6th round of the so called “Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme,” £4 million ($6.54 million) of new funding is to be made available to companies, schools and hospitals that commit to invest in small scale biomass energy systems, including anaerobic digestors, as the UK strives to lower its carbon emissions.
FinSoul believes the grants which may total up to £ ½ million will be used to cover up to 40% of the difference in costs between the conventional systems and the new biomass energy alternative.
The British Energy Minister says the scheme is aimed at helping the UK government ensure that bioenergy sources make up a third of the nation’s renewable energy by 2020.
"As the world works towards a global deal on Copenhagen, back in Britain we are continuing to find greener ways to do business," FinSoul believes he was recently quoted as saying, "By March 2011 we plan to have 200 additional boilers installed, generating 87MW of biomass heat and more than 72,000 tonnes of annual carbon savings."
To date, the program is believed to already have assisted the installation of 458 biomass systems across a range of institutions.
