Patriots' Week is the largest Revolutionary War festival in the country.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Dec 15, 2009 -
(Trenton, NJ) – The week-long event pays homage to the capital city’s significant role in the American Revolution.  In its sixth year, Patriots’ Week will feature more than 45 activities for adults and children, including historic site tours, lectures and the always-popular re-enactments of the Battles of Trenton. Patriots’ Week runs from December 26 through December 31.

Highlights this year include: “Dinner with Ben Franklin” at fine Italian restaurant Settimo Cielo, 17 East Front St. in downtown Trenton, will give guests and opportunity to learn what was on Ben Franklin’s mind during this important time in history; and “Colonial Kids Quest”, which will take kids on a “who done it” search for the Declaration of Independence. Horse and Buggy rides will also be available for the first time this year.

Tours at historic sites such as the Old Barrack’s museum, First Presbyterian church, the Masonic Temple, the 1719 William Trent House, the State House and others will be conducted.  There will be walking tours such as “What Trenton Looked Like” which will take tourists back into the colonial times of Trenton.  The “Trenton Battlefield Walking Tour” will narrate the events of the two battles of Trenton.  There will also be a Colonial Ball where guests can come dressed in their finest colonial garb and enjoy refreshments while learning 18th century dancing.

The annual event also offered teachers in New Jersey an opportunity to take part in the festivities through the Patriots’ Podium Contest. Area teachers submitted a two-minute video explaining why it would be meaningful for them to present a lecture during Patriot’s Week. The winner of the contest, sponsored by New Jersey Education Association, was announced at the press conference. The winner will receive a $500 honorarium and will present a lecture to kick off the Patriot’s Week events.

Patriots’ Week is produced by the TDA in collaboration with the Old Barracks Museum.  Destination Trenton is a project of the TDA in collaboration with the Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce. Destination Trenton is supported in part through a grant from New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism. visitnj.org
